Dexia is consolidating its IT activities in two new data centres in Luxembourg. I.R.I.S. ICT is involved in various projects to do with data migration, consolidation and virtualisation.
- Dexia puts its trust in I.R.I.S ICT for migration of critical data
Dexia Bank Belgium (DBB) came into being following the merger between Crédit Communal, Artesia and Bacob. Dexia first consolidated these three parties’ existing IT infrastructure: the data centres and the applications. Cooperation was then agreed between DBB and Dexia BIL (Banque Internationale de Luxembourg). Dexia is now working on the consolidation of the data centre infrastructure of DBB and BIL. Previously, there were four data centres: two in Belgium and two in Luxembourg. The DBB data centres were located in Brussels. Dexia will eventually no longer have two data centres in Luxembourg. I.R.I.S. ICT is collaborating on this project involving consolidation and relocation of infrastructure. In concrete terms, it is looking after everything to do with hardware and data migration.
I.R.I.S. ICT has long been a trusted partner of Dexia, both for the mainframe and for open source and Unix systems. It is thus that I.R.I.S. ICT has already developed the SAN for the mainframe, provided storage solutions for the mainframe, provided open and Unix systems and devised a backup solution for open systems. Regarding the data migration project in Luxembourg, I.R.I.S. ICT proposed working with the leading storage solution, IBM System Storage DS8300. The data migration itself will take place using the storage system’s global copy function. I.R.I.S. ICT is now finishing the test environment for Dexia in Luxembourg. The production environment must be up and running by the end of September 2007. By then, I.R.I.S. ICT will have transferred all the data copies in Luxembourg and replaced them in the storage system’s various partitions.
Consolidation and virtualisation
In parallel, I.R.I.S. ICT is also working at Dexia on a project to consolidate and virtualise the Unix environment via top-end Unix servers. I.R.I.S. ICT has installed two IBM System p5 595 type Unix servers. With these new servers, Dexia can consolidate to a maximum extent within a redundant environment with great availability and automatic fallover. The various projects under way in Luxembourg are of great strategic importance to Dexia. It therefore goes without saying that I.R.I.S. ICT shoulders a heavy responsibility to ensure that these projects are completed within time. Once data migration has finished, I.R.I.S. will continue to work for Dexia in order to continue consolidating and virtualising the IT infrastructure.
